Dr ManiThe institute’s cardiac surgery unit has been started under the guidance and leadership of Dr. Ganesh K Mani. Dr. Mani has personally performed over 15000 cardiac surgeries to date both adult and pediatric.
 
Dr. Mani served in ascending positions and finally Chief of cardiac surgery at southern railway headquarters hospital at Perambur in the seventies and eighties when cardiac surgery was bereft with high morbidity and mortality (10-15%). along with him team of doctors, nurses & technical staff, he initiated processes of infection control and patient safety and thereby improved the survival and reduced mortality to 1-5% at par with international standards (a feat unparalleled by other cardiac hospitals in India at that time). He was able to replicate the same results in batra hospital & medical research institute, new delhi, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals New Delhi and Delhi heart & lung institute, new delhi nearly twenty thousand patients ( and their families) witnessed the processes which ensure safe and sure heart surgery with compassion & care. Inspired by this personal experience and accomplished with many international fellowship & prestigious affiliations and memberships he has moved on with the mission towards zero mortality in cardiac surgery.
 
one of the pioneers of the ‘Beating Heart Coronary Bypass Surgery’ in India, which was responsible for revolutionizing the outcome of bypass surgery in terms of significantly reducing mortality and morbidity related to coronary surgery while reducing its cost by almost 20%. At DHLI, the cardiac surgery unit brings together the skill-sets of highly competent surgeons with state-of-the art equipment and truly exceptional post-operative care. Through the emphasis is on doing maximum arterial grafts on the beating heart for the treatment of coronary artery disease, the cardiac surgical unit is fully equipped to attend to surgery on diseased valves and also on children born with congenital heart defects. The institute has fully equipped modern operation theaters which form the backbone of the centre. Advanced and innovative techniques are performed regularly keeping pace with the latest developments including the autologous transfusion (cell –saver) and ‘no-touch’ techniques of conduit hearvest (harmonic scalpe) to name a few. At DHLI, we have operated over 4000 complex cardiac cases with associated co-morbidities with excellent outcomes, including ‘ZERO MORTALITY’ in last 300 cases, which speaks about excellent protocols worked out by the team for the perioperative care.

Operating Rooms:
Fully equipped 3 Cardiothoracic Surgical Operating Rooms capable of carrying out all cardiac operations including open heart surgery. CABG "(Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting), valve replacements, closed heart operations and all types of pulmonary surgery. Laminar How air conditioning providing a Zero Bacteria Zone, shadow-less lights and Zero potential isolating panels ensure extreme safety for even the very old and the very young patients. Computerized heart lung machine, pacemakers, centrifugal pump. IABP etc. arc important adjuncts which are available.

Post Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit:
A 12 bedded unit equipped with multi channel invasive monitoring, ventilators, IABP. defibrillators. pacemaker, blood gas analyser etc.

In an environment of enhancing quality in Healthcare Dr. Mani has encouraged his hospital to adopt policies and processes at par with international standards. these processes have been audited by KPMG initially and Intertek subsequently accredited the hospital ISO 9001 certificate in 2005. this could be possible only due to consistent adherence to best hospital ethical methods/regulations/discipline/supervision and last but not the least with active participation of highly motivated staff in all categories. He has further motivated his team and the employees to rise to the standard of NABH promoted by quality council of India & NABL. with all these accreditations the hospital is poised to face the challenges & standards required by medical tourism.
